October 30, 2008: It Was Another Great Conference!

Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's conference one to remember. Based on the feedback we've received during the conference and via written evaluations, this was one of the best conferences in our long history. The breadth and depth of the topics we offered was particularly singled out this year for exactly hitting the "sweet spot" of what our attendees most wanted and needed to learn.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our speakers, who enthusiastically shared their considerable technical expertise in the coverage of their topics. Our attendees this year were also an exceptional group, contributing their own enthusiasm and expertise during the week.

We made many new friends, whom we now claim as part of our extended family. We very much look forward to seeing all of you again, and to making many more new friends, next year!

One of our frequent (and most popular) speakers, Kelvin Lawrence, will be at the conference, and although he was unable to make the time-intensive commitment to speak here this year, he does plan to host some BOF sessions during the week. One BOF he will lead will be on social networking tools (i.e., Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Twitter, etc.). A likely second BOF will be on "current choices when building a modern lightweight user experience (UX)".

Kelvin is currently IBM's CTO of Emerging Internet Software Standards, an IBM Distinguished Engineer and a member of the IBM Academy of Technology. He is currently focused on the advancement, standardization and deployment of technologies based on XML and Web services and on other emerging internet technologies and standards. Kelvin was the co-Chair of the Web Services Security Technical Committee at OASIS. He is also the co-Chair of the Web Services Secure Exchange Technical Committee at OASIS. Kelvin is very interested in declarative application design (using XML grammars to design applications and user interfaces) and is investigating many related technologies. Kelvin is also very interested in computer graphics and user interfaces, especially those involving declarative XML design technologies such as SVG. Kelvin also spends quite a lot of his time traveling and meeting with IBM customers, world-wide; a part of his job that he enjoys very much.
