Colorado Software Summit 2008
October 19 – 24, 2008
Don't Miss Our iPhone Development Topics!
Apple has just decided to drop the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for released iPhone software. That NDA has been a serious impediment for software developers, who can benefit greatly from being able to share what they are learning about writing iPhone software. It was also going to present some problems for our speakers who are covering iPhone software development topics.
With the demise of the NDA (for released features of Apple's iPhone software development kit), our iPhone speakers will be free to do the "live coding" demonstrations using the SDK and the iPhone itself that they had wanted to do, rather than having to work around the restrictions of the NDA. This conference is your first opportunity to see presentations by developers who have applications already available through Apple's store, and your first opportunity to learn what they have learned through actual experience working with the SDK.
Yes, There Is Still Time to Register!
We are receiving a number of phone calls, inquiring whether it is still possible to register for Colorado Software Summit 2008. The answer is "yes" – but don't delay! See our registration page for details on how to register. And additionally...
Yes, Lodging at Keystone Resort Is Still Available!
There are still plenty of condominiums and hotel rooms available at Keystone Resort for the week of the conference. Contact Keystone directly to make your reservations.
Why You Should Not Miss This Conference
The software industry's top professional programmers will gather in Colorado's Rocky Mountains for one week in October, to share the very latest Web development tools and technologies. Presentations on iPhone and Android mobile development, Cloud computing, the latest in Web frameworks – including Django and Rails – are just some of the topics we've assembled for the week.
This isn't a vendor-sponsored conference, it is completely independent, and it certainly isn't a typical conference. We've put together an agenda of topics prepared and presented by programmers, for programmers. You'll spend the week learning the latest software innovations, presented by the very people who develop and use these key technologies every day.
Agenda and Detailed Daily Schedule
We have posted the Colorado Software Summit 2008 Agenda in two formats: agenda sorted by Speaker Name and agenda sorted by Topic Title. A description of each topic and a brief biography of each speaker can be found by following the links from either of these two tables.
The Schedule Overview provides a general description of the conference week.
The detailed daily schedules for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday detail the schedule for each segment of each day. Organized by time of day, within each time block you can find which speakers are presenting which of their topics. There is also a speaker cross reference page, where you can quickly find the days and times when your favorite speaker is presenting one of his or her topics.
On Monday through Thursday, we have an evening Q & A (Question and Answer) session, which is described in the Q & A Sessions link.
Detailed Daily Schedule in iCalendar Format
If you are using Apple's iCal calendar application, you can subscribe to this iCalendar format calendar that contains the detailed daily schedule for Colorado Software Summit 2007.
If you have a different calendar program that supports the iCalendar format, you can download this iCalendar file and import it into your calendar program.
Welcoming Reception, Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Snacks
On Sunday evening, October 19, we will have a welcoming reception for all of our registered attendees, with plenty of great food; you won't need dinner that evening! If you have family members with you at Keystone, they are welcome at this reception as well.
During the week we provide all of our registered attendees a daily Continental breakfast, a hot buffet lunch, and a great afternoon snack. You'll be bragging about the near-gourmet food to your friends and colleagues who weren't lucky enough to attend! On Friday, when most people are traveling, we give everyone a delicious box lunch.
Bring Your Laptop If You Can – Here's Why
When you check in at the conference on Sunday, you will be given a lot of "goodies," including a backpack that has a padded compartment for a laptop, a sweatshirt, a coffee mug, etc. Inside that backpack will be a USB flash drive that contains all of the presentations.
Every presentation room has a large screen and a very bright projector, and the session sizes are kept quite small compared to other conferences (typically about 50 people), but even with great visibility you may prefer to follow along with the presentations on your laptop.
The presentations on the USB flash drive are in Portable Document Format (PDF). These presentations can be viewed using a current version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe Web site. This reader is available in versions for Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and mobile (Palm OS, Pocket PC and Symbian).
If you copy the PDF files from the USB drive onto your hard drive, and if you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, you will be able to make notes directly on the presentations. Other programs that can display PDF files may or may not work for making notes on the presentations.
In addition, we will have free WiFi access throughout the conference center so that you can immediately follow links referenced in the presentations, or check your email between sessions if you like.
